Chai, from Chai Research, is a platform for chatting with AI characters. Its site says it has 25 million of them, from anime and RPG to horror and comfort characters [3]. Its App Store listing says its chatbots reply “complete with authentic voices” and that each character has “their own unique voice and personality” [1]. The listings don’t spell out how that voice works, so check Chai itself if spoken replies matter to you. On Android, character creation is open to everyone, and you can keep a character private or share it with the community [2].
TwoPeas does one thing: a live voice conversation with one companion. You tap the mic and talk, she answers out loud in under a second, and you can interrupt her the way you would a friend. Where Chai is stronger: breadth. If you want to hop between many characters or build your own bot and share it, Chai offers that, and TwoPeas doesn’t. TwoPeas has a small cast and no bot creator, because it’s built for depth: the same companion, a real voice and a face that reacts. And because it runs in the browser, it works the same on your phone and your computer, with nothing to download and the same companion waiting on both.
