Free AI voice chat
Yes, you can talk to an AI out loud for free. ChatGPT and Gemini include voice on their free tiers, with limits; Character.AI and Talkie describe their voice calls as free; Pi and Sesame are free to download; and TwoPeas gives you 10 free minutes, then 3 every day, with no card. Here's what each one is for.
A note before the list
This page is made by TwoPeas, one of the apps on it. We’ve kept to what each company says about its own app, numbered every fact to its source, and left out scores and rankings. Apps are listed alphabetically, with TwoPeas last. Free tiers change often, so treat this as a starting point: it was last checked in October 2026, and each source has today’s details.
Where you can talk to AI for free
| App | What it’s for | Free voice | Where it runs | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Character.AI | Texting and talking with AI characters | Free to download, with in-app purchases [1]; its Google Play listing promises “unlimited AI conversations and voice calls—all for free” [2] | The web at character.ai [3], plus iPhone and Android apps [1][2] | |
| ChatGPT voice | A general assistant for questions and tasks | Included for free users, with limits that may change [4]; the app is free, with paid plans in the app [5] | The web, iOS and Android [4] | |
| Gemini Live | Google's assistant, with your Google apps | In the free Gemini app [8]; usage limits are higher on paid Google AI plans [9] | Android and iPhone apps, not the Gemini web app [6]; Live in Chrome on a computer [7] | |
| Pi | A personal AI to talk things through with | Listed as free, with a voice mode for live conversation [10][11] | The web at pi.ai [12], plus iPhone and Android apps [10][11] | |
| Sesame | Voice agents with their own personalities, for following a thought | Free on the US App Store [13]; Google Play lists in-app purchases [14] | iPhone and Android apps [13][14] | |
| Talkie | Calling AI characters, from its library or your own | Its site says calls are free and unlimited, with no premium plan needed [15] | iPhone and Android apps [15] | |
| TwoPeas | A companion to talk with, with an animated face | 10 minutes to start, then 3 minutes every day, no card | A web browser on phone or computer, no download | TwoPeas pricing |
Assistants or companions?
The free options fall into two groups, and which one you want matters more than which app is free.
ChatGPT voice and Gemini Live are assistants. You talk to them to get something done: an answer, a plan, a draft, a second opinion. ChatGPT’s voice works on the web as well as in its apps [4]; Gemini Live lets you interrupt it by talking and share your camera or screen [6]. Neither company’s page promises a fixed amount of free voice time, and both say limits apply [4][9]. If questions and tasks are what you want to talk through, an assistant is the right tool; TwoPeas’s free plan is deliberately small.
Microsoft Copilot isn’t in the table: as of October 2026, Microsoft’s help page says voice availability depends on your subscription and region [16], so check Copilot for what a free account gets.
Character.AI, Pi, Sesame, Talkie and TwoPeas are built for the conversation itself. Character.AI is a cast of characters you can text or call [1]. Pi is a single personal AI with a voice mode [10]. Sesame offers four voice agents, each with its own personality and a memory that grows over time [13]. Talkie lets you call characters from its library, or ones you design yourself [15]. If a library of characters is what you want, see also how TwoPeas compares with Chai.
TwoPeas is the one with a face: an animated Live2D companion who lip-syncs and shows her emotions while she talks, answers in under a second, and runs in your browser with nothing to install. You choose how she relates to you (a friend, a coach, a mentor and more), and when you want something new to talk about, she brings up a topic herself.
How TwoPeas’s free minutes work
- 10 welcome minutes. Create an account, no card needed, and your first 10 minutes are on our most lifelike voice.
- Then 3 minutes every day. They refresh at midnight in your time zone, whether or not you used yesterday’s.
- Counted by the second. A minute is connected voice time. Partial minutes carry over to your next call instead of being rounded up; a call shorter than 30 seconds counts as 30 seconds.
- A goodbye, not a cut-off. About a minute before your minutes run out, she starts wrapping up the call.
- When they’re gone. Wait for tomorrow’s, spend Peas on extra talk time (5 Peas a minute on the free plan), or pick a plan. Plans start at $14.99/mo for 110 voice minutes a month; pricing has the details.
- What every plan keeps. New topics on request, birthday and anniversary reminders, and daily voice notes are on the free plan too. The notes go out at one time of day for everyone, so where that falls in your quiet hours, you won’t get them unless you switch quiet hours off. Memory between calls comes with Best Friend and Inseparable; on the free plan each call starts fresh.
Questions about free AI voice chat
Can I talk to an AI for free?
Yes. ChatGPT and Gemini include voice conversations on their free tiers, with limits; Character.AI and Talkie describe their voice calls as free; Pi and Sesame are free to download; and TwoPeas gives you 10 free minutes, then 3 minutes every day. Each company sets its own limits and can change them.
Which free AI voice chat gives the most time?
Going by what each company says: Talkie says its character calls are free and unlimited, and Character.AI's Google Play listing promises unlimited conversations and voice calls for free. OpenAI says free voice has limits that may change, and Google sets usage limits for the Gemini app that are higher on its paid plans. Pi and Sesame don't state a limit on the pages we cite. TwoPeas is clear about its own: 3 minutes a day after your first 10, which is small. Free tiers change, so check each app's own terms.
Is TwoPeas free?
Free to start. A new account gets 10 free minutes, then 3 free minutes every day, refreshed at midnight in your time zone. For longer calls, spend Peas on extra minutes or pick a plan; plans start at $14.99/mo for 110 voice minutes a month.
Do I need a credit card?
Not for the free plan. You add a card only if you choose a paid plan.
Do I need to download an app?
Not for TwoPeas: it runs in the web browser on your phone or computer. Several others work on the web too: OpenAI says ChatGPT voice does, Pi and Character.AI have web versions at pi.ai and character.ai, and Google offers Gemini Live in Chrome on a computer, though not in the Gemini web app. Sesame and Talkie list iPhone and Android apps.
What happens when my free minutes run out?
About a minute before they do, your companion starts wrapping up, so the call ends with a goodbye rather than mid-sentence. Then you can wait for tomorrow's 3 minutes, spend Peas on extra talk time (5 Peas a minute on the free plan), or start a plan.
